Ok, I have a problem.

After installing Leopard on my G4 tower, kernel_task has been acting funny.

Usually it only runs at 2-5%, but after sleeping and waking the computer, it goes right up to 100% (or however much it can get).

I tried a clean install and the problem's still there.
Any ideas? Thanks!

How long have you had that installed

If its only 2-3 days old that could be spotlight running its initial intensive indexing of your drive.

See if it persists after a day or 2

I'm fairly certain it isn't spotlight. I watched the progress bar while it was indexing, and it finished pretty quickly.
Plus, I left the computer on overnight, and the problem was still there in the morning. I don't think spotlight takes that long.

I reinstalled yesterday afternoon.

edit: Is there a way to reset/ reinstall firmware?

Problem Solved

Turns out the problem was my lack of a DVD drive.
Once I installed one, everything started going smooth again.
