Howdy everybody. I have a G3 Blue & White with OS X 10.2 installed. It has been sitting idle for about 4 months. I started it up again today and it would not get past a BLUE SCREEN. I researched and then did some things I probably shouldn't have.

This is where I am now: A large "login" screen appears in middle of monitor which says Mac OS X Kenny Seller's Computer. Below that it has my name again which when I click on it I am then taken to a password prompt which I enter and it accepts. Login screen goes away but after a few seconds I am returned to same "login" screen.

I piddled some more and now I have an "Other" name below mine which when I click on it takes me to a username/password page. I enter kennysellers and then a password which it accepts. Login activity starts and like before, returns to same original "login" screen.

I never had a login screen before and the password was originally setup for administrative reasons.

This occurs in SAFEMODE as well.

My OS X 10.2 won't boot it up but my 9.2 boots the computer up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try reinstalling 10.2 with the original media. If the machine boots with 9.2 at least you know the CD drive is OK. Now all you need to do is find out if your hard disk is OK.

Regards.
