My Titanium G4 (10.3.?) is stuck on the "Starting Mac OS X..." screen. The blue bar gets to the end and then just stays there. After more than an hour nothing new happens. I have tried PMU reset, OPT-CMF-P-R, CMD -S (thus fsck -fy, & sh /etc/rc) and reading over 100 notes on Mac Forum. I don't know what the next step is.
FYI: I never hear a chime and sometimes as I try to restart I get two very unusual signals. The first signal is a low emitting tone for about 3 seconds. The second signal is from the white "heartbeat" light at the center bottom of the lid below the screen. The light flashes 5, 6, or 7 times then stops. I have never read any post describing these signals.
The issue started after I allowed a security upgrade and (I believe) a Safari upgrade and then hit the button to accept the restart.
I have some situational issues too, if it helps to help me. I don't have any backup files or disks with me while I am visiting relatives in the Northeastern UK and my optical drive doesn't work anyway.
What can anyone suggest? Thanks in advance for your time and ideas.
