Sound Mngr in Panther

The volume on our computer (IMac G5) is barely audible. All volume controls are up, but when I click on the Sound Manage I get a message that states; "Insert volume for Sond Manager and wait for it to appears on desktop". Hmmm....never had that happen before. Anyone have any ideas? When using earphone the volume is quite loud.

if headphone volume is oK, sounds like there is a problem with the imacs internal speakers
