if all you do is surf the internet or check email, there wont be a huge difference, if you do lots of processor intensive stuff, like graphics, or video editing, there will be a big difference, not huge, but definitely noticeable, also depends on your processor speed.

there ill be a difference, not huge, but a somewhat noticeable difference, especially when applying filters in photoshop.

It's a lot safer for me to go through apple in getting the extra 256MB incase I screw it up installing it myself and void my warranty

I think Ill have to consider to change it myself. It does look easy from the manual and its a lot cheaper. Thanks

A processor intensive application doesn't necessarily use more memory.

no, but if youre running more than 1 app at a time, it does, overall. and I cant see anyone running just photoshop.

More memory isn't going to help unless you use it, you can have 10 apps open at the same time but if each one only uses an average of 30Mb , then having more memory than that isn't going to help.

Well I went for 768 overall and I'm glad I did...

I have a lot less noticeable slowdowns when running multiple memory intensive apps...

What amazes me though, is that when I check out the current memory usage in Activity monitor, nearly ALL memory is being used up... only around 10MB free most of the time..

Games run a lot smoother than with the base 256MB and apps such as iMovie and iDVD seem a bit snappier too...
