JVC camera to iMac G5

Hi, im having a lot of trouble putting a jvc camera's videos on my mac.

They show up as .moi and .tod on my computer, (we are using a usb connection, when we used firewire, it didnt mount on the desktop). I want to use the videos on imovie. I have regular imovie (not imovie HD), and regular Quicktime (not pro).
Any ideas of whats wrong?

if you use firewire it doesnt' mount on the desktop. Open imovie and go to the capture mode (idk what it looks like or where it is, I use final cut) and then hit play and tell the computer that you would like to capture. It should play the footage back in real time and as it is doing that copy the video to the computer in a format that imovie can understand.
