Hi everyone! I really need help here...I've tried everything, but am at a dead end...

I own a Sony DCR-SR100 Handycam. When I upload the video's to my Macbook, they are in MPG format.

1) Is there a way to convert them to something that can be opened in iMovie '06 without sacrificing quality (High quality is important for these videos).

2) Is there any movie editing software I could purchase that would simply allow me to edit the MPG files directly, without having to convert them.

Perhaps try MPEG Streamclip to convert the files.

Do a search in this forum and you'll find this kind of question has been asked many times.

Yeh mpegstream clip is the easiest and export as full dv make sure you choose the deinterlace option. You may need to get quicktime pro and also the apple mpeg2 converter (about £40) from apple store. I use this option for the mini DVD cameras which stores in same format.
