MBP and FW800 LaCie 2big Triple

Hi, i installed a LaCie 2big Triple 1.5TB drive in RAID1 mode on my MacBook Pro. It is connected with FW800 to get the best speed.

However, is doesn't do the "automatic on/off" as specified by LaCie for this drive. According to LaCie Support, this is a hardware MacBook problem ...
Any better/other experience with this.

But secondly, the annoying thing is the constant going into sleep and wake up again at irregular intervals (for me not traceable reasons). I have only the data for iTunes, iMove and iPhoto on it. No other application has any data stored on the drive. What does cause the wake-ups ?
Any tips / experience.

moved drive to USB

a littele bit different now.
it does the autoamtaic on/off of the drive -- great !
BUT,
it goes to sleep when not used -- thats also great

and then at irregular intervals when nothing is going on it wakes up again.
i can not find any indication in the logs ....

this is very annoying :

lower speed (USB vs FW800) and the constantly going down and up of the dive.

Any ideas guys ? It looks like the LaCie drive reacts different on FW800 and USB. But what makes it wake up again ??
