Hey, I'm new to macs computers. So far, I love them, but, I have a question regarding the link you posted. I tried to download "Turntablist," however when
I click on the particular thing that allows me to install it, says:

"There is no default application specified to open the document "dfx Turntablist.component".

At which point my options are to either cancel, or choose the application.

Any ideas? I'm hoping that this is just operator error.

"There is no default application specified to open the document "dfx Turntablist.component".

Turntablist is an AU (audio unit) effect plug in, and you need an audio unit compatable host application like any of these below to use it..

Logic (version 5.4 or higher)
Spark (version 2.8 or higher)
Metro (version 5.8 or higher)
Rax
SynthTest
Final Cut Pro (version 4.0 or higher)
Final Cut Express (version 2.0 or higher)
Soundtrack
SONASPHERE
AudioXplorer
Ouroboros
Audio Hijack Pro
Melodyne (version 2.0 or higher)
Peak (version 4.0 or higher)
DSP-Quattro (version 1.2 or higher)
Digital Performer (version 4.1 or higher)
Numerology (version 1.2 or higher)
Intuem (version 2.0.1 or higher)
GarageBand
Sample Manager
Plogue Bidule
Amadeus II (version 3.7.2 or higher)
Ableton Live (version 4.0 or higher)
WaveBurner
Critters (version 2.0 or higher)
SonicBirth
AU Lab
Wave Editor
Sound Studio (version 3.0 or higher)
Impromptu
Audacity (version 1.3 or higher)
XO Wave
djay
soundBlade
Toast (version 8.0 or higher)
TwistedWave
AudioCodex
WireTap Studio
Ardour

to install an audio unit component you don't open it, you just copy it to this location 'library/audio/plug-ins/components' ..then open it in the compatable application that you want to use it in!

Hope this helps!? ;)

Yeah, haha. That'll definitely help. I'll see what I can do. In particular, (well, I have garage band) is there one of those many that you recommend?

all depends on what you want to accomplish. i use g-band for all my editing/recording/midi work. but i also use Amadeus II for more intricate editing (also to make things reverse, since g-band can't flip a track around). but if you want to do multi-track recording and more powerful things, then Logic and Pro Tools are good.

Well my goal is to create some intense trance, techno, and hip-hop beats. If you've got suggestions I'd love to hear them. With that plug-in, I copied it to that location, however, I don't know how to get it to open in garage band.

If you are just starting out with music production then Garageband is good place to start. It's a powerful application thats easier to use than most! Other than that I would recommend Reason for trance, techno, hip-hop etc..

This link will explain all regarding the use of audio units in garageband.. http://www.thegaragedoor.com/tutorials/audiounits.html

if you wanna make beats, i would try Reason. i also use iDrum, which works as a stand alone and also as an AU. only bad thing about it is you cant do 6/8 or 3/4 time. but yeah, Reason is pretty bad-*** once you figure it out.

If you wanna get really crazy, this software is what Autechre uses. I've never used it but it looks like fun.
