Hello all... A few days ago I started randomly having an odd font issue in safari... As you can see from the attached picture (along the entire right side) this font is in all caps... So when I write emails I have no idea what's capital or lower-case.
This mainly effects gmail, but also pops up a few other places...

I cleared Safari preferences and ran onyx... I also deleted the only two fonts that I've ever put in my "fonts" folder (so they weren't on the default OS installation)... and restarted. Any words of wisdom?

have you tried going onto appearance in preferences on safari? if you have and it hasn't worked then try re-installing safari or using a different browser, like firefox. your bookmarks and stuff will be imported into it automatically.

I tried to delete safari, then re download from firefox... When I tried to install, it asks me to select which volume... but it won't let me because it says it needs 10.5.2 or later.... I have 10.5.3!!!

So I "time machined" safari back.... and I'm back to square one... The same font problem happens in gmail and google search in Firefox.

Looks like your Helvetica is messed up.

Font Book > File > Validate Fonts.

fixed it.... the offending font was called "Alien League" and I have no idea how it got on my computer... I believe it was "acting like" Arial.

Here was the process of finding it... I took Aptmunich's advice and started poking around in Font Book... on the left there is a "web" tab (Hey! What do you know?!)... I clicked on it and there are about 10 fonts in there. The first was the "alien" font and I could recognize the way it looked right away.
I deleted... restarted safari and we're back in business...

Thanks for the help... any idea how it might've snuck in in the first place?

Installed any new games lately with alien fonts? Or other apps (design-ish?)
