So as we have much anticipated, or at least I have, AT&T has officially announced their prices for the 3G iPhone:
-Single plans start at $70 and don't include texting(thats another $5 for 200)
-Family plans start at $129

They also said that in the future they will sell iPhones that do not need to be activated by AT&T at purchase. But there is no set date for that.

Wow, that is pretty pricey compared to what I pay now. Oh well, have to suck it up for the coolness of the iPhone I guess. I can't wait until next Friday!

You would think that for $70 text messaging would be included, but I guess AT&T is trying to make the iPhone, Blackberry, and Palm Treo plans more comparable in price and features. :(

In my opinion the iPhone is in a world of it's own, completely dominating the Blackberry and Treo in terms of available features and compatibility with other devices. Even with this taken into consideration, more people will rethink their decision on what type of phone to buy because of the high monthly rate...

$199 for the 8GB is pretty nice, but I am contemplating forking over the extra $100 for the 16GB. I have TONS of music, pics, and videos that I would love to be able to tote around w/ me and I just think the 8GB would fill up too fast ans slow down the iPhone. What do you guys think?

Get the 16GB... I don't have a lot of music (~200 songs) or videos, but I do have hours and hours worth of podcasts, and I only have 7 GB's left. I don't even have all of my podcasts loaded onto my iPod yet!

I still don't quite see what the fuss is about - either with that Canadian business or American prices.

For once, you're paying about the same as us in Europe (or more specifically the UK)!

To be honest, I was surprised when the iPhone plan for data was $20, so I'm not really surprised they upped it. I doubt text messages cost that much in bandwidth, so it would have been nice if they threw in at least 50-100.

As far as people's complaints that it's too expensive, last I checked Verizon's basic plan for voice and data was 79.99, and doesn't include text messages either. So I hope there's aren't any Verizon users complaining here.

With taxes added in, is a family plan even going to be any cheaper than just getting two single lines? Also, anyone with a family plan on AT&T care to explain how they do it? ie, is a 3rd line an additional $10/month?

I'm on a family plan with my mom and dad. It's my iPhone and 2 regular phones. We pay about $150 a month. Each line is an additional $10 a month. We have 700 minutes, unlimited night and weekends, and rollover minutes. It's $60 plus 2 additional lines and $25 for my data/iphone plan.

Either my math is really bad, or you have some other charges? 60 + 2x10 + 25 = 105, right?

You have to add in tax too. Also, my mom pays for every text messages she receives or sends. For $25 I get internet/data, 200 messages, unlimited mobile to mobile text messaging. So, like I said, it's about $150 a month. :)

I guess I won't be upgrading. That's bull that AT&T will charge extra for the phone for current customers.
I'll stick with my original plan and upgrade after the two years and hope the 32GB version is out.

I'm not either. I'm happy with my iPhone. :) I really don't want to pay more.

Yea, I was digging the GPS. That feature isn't really isn't worth the extra $15 a month.

I think that it would be beneficial to someone (like me) who doesn't have GPS in their car. At least thats my take on it...

That certainly would be nice to have. I am not fortunate enough to have it in my car.

I'm willing to pay the extra $15/mo for the GPS and bump in data speed.
