G3 400MHz Indigo - Best OS???

Currently 10.4.11 is on it and it is pretty snappy with 512MB RAM but would an older cat suit it better?

If Tiger runs well on it, I would stick with it. 10.3 Panther really does not have the support and Safari is very old and has issues with some sites. You can upgrade to a newer Safari either.

Low End Mac says your machine will take 1GB RAM. I would keep Tiger installed and upgrade the RAM to 1GB.

Complete agreement with dtravis, stay with Tiger and whack that RAM up to 1 Gb. You'll never break speed records, but Leopard would make the iMac even slower.
