I just purchased a duet set of Bose Companion II Speakers for my Mac. I hooked up everything according to the Owner's Guide yet I get no sound from the new speakers. The sound is still coming from the built-in speakers. Yes, they are connected to a power source. Yes, the volume on the speakers is turned up. It is a Mac desktop running OS Tiger 10.4.11. Obviously, I'm missing something. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This might be the simplest of questions, did you plug the speakers into the correct jack on your Mac ? the headphone jack ?

I hope you have a better experience with yours, I liked the sound of my Bose Companion II but after a sound would stop and 30 seconds would pass I would get a pretty annoying humm/buzz. I tried the ground-loop isolator but still had problems. Sadly the speakers went back, I picked up a different brand and never had the problem.

Hi and sorry to hijack this post. I understand the headphone jack in the iMac is dual purpose, a headphone jack as well as an optical line out. However it seems it does not have a line level audio out.

In addition to the Duet and the use of the optical line out to an external DAC, is the only way to obtain a line level audio through the addition of an USB based external DAC?

Is the optical line out bit perfect?

Thanks.
