Hi Guys,

I am currently running an iMac G5 on MAS OS X 10.4.10 and my server where all file sharing occurs is running Windows SBS 2003. I also share some files from some Windows XP workstations. SMB settings were placed on the server to allow file sharing from the mac, which worked perfectly until recentely when the server was placed on a seperate subnet.

Infact, the Mac can access the files from the workstations running XP, because they are on the same subnet. When I try accessing the server I get "the alias servername could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found". My options are DELETE ALIAS, FIX ALIAS, OK".

Is there any way I can specify the FQDN of the server to the iMac?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

Closer than you think.
Your Mac's Specs
Performa 6116 2GBSCSI 8MB OS 7.5.3
FQDN would only work if the DNS that the Mac gets is from the SBS.

Try command K on the mac.

smb://serverip/share

or

smb://hostname/share

Is the second subnet a VLAN? Are there any rules specifying SMB traffic across the subnets. Is the SBS the only thing on the subnet?,......Why?

What is doing the routing?
