command-shift-4 = .png?

Guys and gals,

How do you switch the above command to take screenshots from saving them as png to jpg? I thought there was a way but am drawing a major blank. Thanks.

In terminal issue the following command.

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg && killall SystemUIServer

or start grab and go to prefs

oops nevermind, i thought that's how you did it ;p

Personally I just added the following lines to my .profile

alias ssJpg="defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg && killall SystemUIServer"
alias ssPng="defaults write com.apple.screencapture type png && killall SystemUIServer"

then did a . ./.profile
to reload it, and now I do ssJpg whenever I need a jpg screen shot, and vise versa

Or if you have SnapzXPro installed you can set the default to jpeg

Another way. If you use Onyx to run maintenance on OSX, Open Onyx and go to the Parameters Tab and General. You can change your Screen Capture format to whatever you want.
