Is there a keyboard shortcut on the mbp that allows you to delete the characters in front of the cursor?

(ive tried cmd-delete, option-delete, & control-delete, but to no avail.)

I use a program called Double Command to remap my backslash key (which i never use) to a forward delete...

and just in case I wanted to type a backslash, backslash has been remapped to fn+backslash...
