You are running Firefox out of the Disk Image. When it asks you to drag it to the Applications folder, drag it there then close the Disk Image and throw it in the trash. If you want a shortcut in your Dock, Open Applications and drag it from there to the Dock.

That is how a lot of applications are installed on OSX. You download the .DMG image, double click on it and it mounts and opens. Drag the application to the Applications folder, close the Disk Image and trash it or keep it for later use.

you have made a comon mistake

OS X apps download as a disk image, you have dragged that icon straight to the dock, so that when you select the dock app it brings up the disk image gain.

what you need to do is, drag the Firebox icon out of the dock

open the disk image and copy the firefox app in to your apps folder

drag the icon from the apps folder in to your doc to link the application in your application to the doc

now when you launch firefox it will start from the app in your applications folder
