Is there anyway to listen to both the internal iMac speakers and some externals that I have?

The externals cost about $20, and they are comparable to the imacs speakers in different ways, in other words, they both have different pros & cons.

Can I?

It would be so awesome to hear 4.1 sound. lol.

AFAIK, only by disabling the cutout contact on the audio-out port inside your iMac. Not recommended unless you really know what you're doing.

No, because the moment you push an audio plug into your Mac, it cuts out the internal speakers. How about adding an extra couple of speakers to your external setup? If the amplifier will handle them that is. I have surround sound which I can switch in as required, otherwise I use two external speakers from a 'rescued' amplifier.
