Samsung new annoucement about 9.5mm 500GB laptop drive

Samsung announced this a while ago. We've all been eagerly awaiting for when it hits the market

I wonder why they keep announcing but not shipping? The title suggests that it's in mass production. I went to their website and the 500GB is listed. However, there is no button to add to shopping cart.

That's looks like it's the real thing. Not sure how reputable the last two sellers are though...

Good!! The first one is only $195. I am going to order it. I need this badly. I once asked Best Buy how much to do an install-only (I can do the formatting, imaging and all that stuff) and they said $40. So that's less than $150 to double my capacity from 250GB (current) to 500GB.

I only have 6GB of 120GB remaining on my hard drive despite having two external hard drives. I think it's time I upgrade as well, maybe to a cozy 320GB, which should drop in price now that the 500GB drives are out

There are advantages when selecting the 320GB. The 500GB is only 5400 rpm while the 320GB is available (or going to be available) at 7200 rpm. So it's matter of sacrificing space for speed or speed for space. I need the space but would love to have the speed too. It will probably take more than a year before we see 500GB at 7200 rpm.

I think I saw a 320GB 7200 rpm that supported sudden motion sensing. The 500GB more than likely does not.

So, the 320GB has its advantages.
