I have no need for forum rules myself, always behaving in a manner deemed legal by the majority. (right or wrong, blue mud and all that)
My ' I guess it must be so, because you said it' comment was a bad way to get a legal citation, instead of what could be construed as opinion from the rule poster. I searched for the legality of it, and the copying of commercial dvds even for personal backup was deemed an infringment of the DMCA rights of copyright holders. The constitutionality of the DMCA was not ruled upon, but seems to go against common practice of allowing personal duplication, i.e., backups, of any media purchased legally.
DVDS alone are contradicting common practice. Which is why I answered the way I did.
It should SO be discussed. One man, namely that federal judge, should not be allowed to overrule what the public wants, the majority. Talking about it might stimulate people to do something about it. Legally.
And I do know something about it. Thank you.
