Start up 911!!!

Hello :),
I'm having a start up problem with my imac, and i need help!!! when i turn my mac on, it goes to a black screen that reads over and over again:
"Jun 11 20:32:12 ......... couldn't find root user. sleeping and trying again.

Then the screen goes blue and stays that way. i'm clueless on how to proceed. I need to write my paper but i can't untill someone please helps me!!!! :[

Try popping the install DVD in and booting from that holding down 'C'. If successful go to Utilities>Disk Utility>Repair Disk and see if that improves things.
