I was given two older iBooks, both with different issues..
My ibook G4 keeps randomly crashing. It doesn't shut down, just looses video. I have read about the chip coming loose from the board, and have put in shims to try to remedy that, but it still happens.
The laptop will idle for hours while I am out doing other things, but it seems once you start using it it will flash to a black screen. This can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 hours, but it always does it. Also, if I bump the computer or desk it will also make it do this.
Sometimes the screen just goes black, other times it is black with flashing white horizontal lines across the screen.
Someone help me! This is my first Mac after using PC's for so many years, and I think I would really enjoy it if it would just stay on!!
