Hey, there. I got my MBP in October.
I've never had problems until just recently, when Pro Tools and Reason started to like, barely work.
So, I looked up how to do a hardware test, and either I'm looking in the wrong spot, or it won't work.
On the Apple website, it says that I have to hold in the 'D' key while restarting. If I do this, before it shows the apple logo, it quickly flashes a picture of a folder with a question mark on it. It's only there for maybe a half a second until the Apple logo appears again, and then it goes to the desktop.
I've tried it like a million times.. Is there any other way to do it?

I think you need to put in your install disk and then reboot and hit the D key .

Dear first guy who responded to me:
You are my hero, and I freaking love you.
I must have misread something when I was originally trying it.

On the Apple support thing I found it said something vague about it being stored on a bootable optical media... why don't they just say disk?!!?

Hope you're sorted now.
