What is the best cleanup utility package for the Mac?

The reason I ask is that recently, when our family is playing World of Warcraft on our Intel iMac (20", 2.0Ghz Core Duo, 1Gb memory) the computer has occasionally started the spinning beachball state, which it then refuses to come out of, after 10 mins or so, you have to turn the computer off and on again, as you can't access anything on the computer, Warcraft or otherwise.

We regularly run MacJanitor, but I think that having the five accounts on the iMac may need more dedicated software to clean the machine up.

Any suggestions?

First thing to consider would be to upgrade the ram. You currenlty are using 1GB. (maximum is 4GB) The OS itself uses 512mb and the World of Warcraft uses at least 512mb. As you can see, your ram is maxed out and would cause the slowdown you are experiencing.

Some great places for ram.

I would recommend OnyX for some maintenance. It has more options than Mac Janitor. Besides the maintenance scripts, you can clear the caches, repair permissions, etc...

Something I will look into, Soulwar.

The odd thing is that I also play Warcraft on my 12inch 867MHz PowerBook, which is slightly UNDER spec for Warcraft. It has only 640Mb of RAM, and yet the problem doesn't happen there!

The iMac runs Tiger, and the PowerBook runs Panther. Strange, eh?
