Mac OS X Tiger reinstall problems

Hello,

I have a Mac PowerBook G4. I found the hard drive to be failing. I removed the hard drive and mounted it in a linux box to back up the information. I replaced the hard drive with a 250gb western digital. This is a friends PC and i dont know anything about macs. When we boot from the os x dvd it looks as if it will work then goes to a light blue screen that is blank. I dont know what is causeing this. Any help would be great.

Did you format the drive before starting the install to OS Journalled? If so you are using either a system restore disc for that computer or a black colored retail full install version disc?
