A friend of mine had an iPod video that i'm in the process of repairing for him, and he asked if he bought a bigger hard drive for it would it be possible to simply replace this?
I looked on the forums but couldn't find the answer. Has anyone tried this?

It should be possible. A Google search turned up a good amount of articles about it.

I've searched around and can't really find anythin telling me if i need to, for example, install a faster battery, or a different headphone port, or anything like?

Ive done it and its quite simple.
I had a 30GB iPod Video and I made it a 80GB.
all you need to do is get a larger hard drive and a new backplate.
All the stuff you can get on ebay for a reasonable price
