Alright,

I have a WD 1TB external that I want to use for backups.

Situation: I've been using this drive for a while. I have about 475GB of free space. Would I be able to simply create a 150GB partition and format it for MAC? Or do I have to clean the drive completely in order to create the needed partition?

Thanks

HDD needs to be formatted and when that happens it erases any files.

I never had the option to create a partition i don't think, i could be wrong though.

Way... way too many specs to list.
Really only the new/a partition would need to be formatted. I haven't' tried repartitioning an HFS+ drive with data on it, but I imagine that there are utilities that allow this.
