I know there was a thread about this before, but the problem was never addressed.
And my spacebar started squeaking tonight. Not all the time, but I'd say 1/3 or 2/3 of the time. It's a real hassle and I want to fix it!
Any ideas?

Sometimes when it is pressed, it makes a slight chirping sound.

sounds like its just an old keyboard, or the space bar has been pressed a number of times by now through use that its showing signs of wear and tear.

Does the noise come from the speakers? For some reason when I press shift on my iMac the computer beeps from the speakers very silently...

Okay.
No, it's not from the speakers, and I've had my PowerBook for less than three months.
I think it may have been humidity or something, because now it's not doing it...

I have the same problem, sometimes it squeaks, sometimes not. Probably humidity...Maybe "spray" a little bit of fine oil would help? Did that to my squeaky hinges weeks ago, still no squeaking there.

If I put oil on it, is there any chance of it getting inside and messing anything up? It's still not sqeaking now, so I think it was just the humidity... For some reason it was 70 degrees and slightly damp out yesterday even though I live in central Illinois and it's mid-november...
