I have an avi movie that will play with MPlayer OS X but which gets an error message when I try to play with Quicktime or Final Cut Pro. I just want to take a clip from the movie for a presentation. does anyone have any ideas as to how I might do this? Thanks.

use divx doctor 2 to convert that avi into an mov, then itll play with QT if you have that codec I mentioned. in screenshot, you need the top 3 codecs.

Codecs?

Thanks for the help. I am using DivX Doctor at the moment but am unsure how to get the codecs and where these should be installed.

you can get them at 3ivx.com, install them in this folder macintosh hd>library>quicktime.

confused

Sorry to be dense but I can't discover how to get those codecs, whether they are part of another package or whether they are free. I did download 3ivx and DivX Doctor and I can now view and edit the movie. What else will the codecs enable me to do? Thanks.

well, if youre using quicktime pro, you can do everything from chopping up audio and video to seperating them as tracks, adjusting audio output levels, surround sound and some other stuff, plus play a few extra formats in quicktime.
