1) The creation of concentration camps by both the U.S. and the Germans. It was defining to me, because it showed that both sides (and all peoples) could treat others like they were sub-human.
2) The Creation of Nuclear Arms (ICBM's, Tomahawk Missles). -- This one should be obvious, it changed us forever, anyone can now kill millions from miles away with a single button press.
3) The Fall of the Roman Empire. --- mostly because the human race took a huge step backwards after this, going to the Dark Ages.
