Hello,

I just got this 20" iMac for my dad a week ago and he is loving it. The only one issue, which I am hoping is nothing serious, is that when you Dim the back light of the LCD the system starts to hum constantly with no stopping until the Back Light is either all the way UP or all the way Down?!

I am going to go on a limb here and say that thats probably not a normal thing. But I would like to get some confirmation from the fine member of this Rockin' forums.

Please let me know what y'all think.

Cheers

So I guess no body came across this one before...!

I'll call Apple Tomorrow and see what they can tell me. I'll update you when I do.

Alright so here is the deal.

I spoke with Tech Support, the first go the guy didn't particularly understand english very well but at least he tried. After a few reboots and Disk Repair, yeah you read that right, he had me do a Disk Repair for an LCD issue. Anyways , after he had me try a few things that didn't help he transfered me to an Apple Products Specialist.

She was pleasant enough. She did admit it was a weird problem that she never heard of before. She had me try a few things as well but to no avail. To make a long story short she is going to issue me a replacement for a new one. Kinda disappointing in a way, but I am still glad that they are replacing it. Too bad that my dad will have to be without his shiny new iMac for a few days until he gets the new one.

I actually looked through the Apple support forums when no one around here responded and it seems like no one else had the same complain about the Humming Noise with the LCD. It simply seems that the LCD just failed.

Very interesting problem. It's also interesting that even on Apple's forums no one responded to you. I guess it's a rare issue! Could be the Inverter making the noise. Seen that a couple of times.

Glad they are just giving you a new one, but it would have been educational if they fixed it so we could all know what was the cause of the issue.

yeah I absolutely agree with on the whole Educational part. Its just too bad that the LCD goes to LaLa Land not even a week after getting the system to start with.

My dad isn't too excited about going back to his Windoze box until he gets his new iMac from Apple... :(

So its been a while and I figured I should update everyone, and praise Apple Support a bit :D

The whole transaction went so smoooooth I couldn't and still can't believe it. When I got the email with shipping labels and dropped off the iMac and Kinkos not even a half hour later I got an email from Apple saying that they saw the origin Scan for the defective unit and they are shipping the replacement overnight... which was awesome.

For the exception of FedEX screwing up the delivery the new iMac arrived and it works Grrrreat.

I LOVE APPLE and APPLE CARE.

Cheers
