My girlfriend just got a Macbook Air and it has leopard on it...im wondering if I could use her os x install discs to upgrade to leopard on my iMac...is that possible? I've done this kind of stuff tons of times with windows in the past on different machines...so I'm guessing I could do the same on the macs right?

No. the Gray discs that come with new Macs have build numbers. Those build numbers are unique to that model Mac. If you tried to run that disc on any other model Mac, it will simply say "This disc cannot be used on this computer". That includes all the bundled software on the disc as well.

Also, using those discs on any other computer is a breach of the End User License Agreement, making it illegal to use on any other computer.

If you want Leopard, Buy it.
