how come help menu doesn't load?

Hello,

I am trying to click and use the help feature on the FINDER but it keeps on opening and crashing. on the help feature on programs like idvd and safari, the help menu loads up wih no problem. is his normal?

Repair permissions
Run maintenance scripts (MacJanitor or the like)

If no help…

I've not done this, but have seen it suggested…Search for files/folders containing com.apple.help and delete them. From what I understand, the help files will be rebuilt by the OS.

These are the files/folders that were found on my system:
com.apple.helpui.plist
com.apple.helpui
com.apple.helpviewer.plist
com.apple.help.plist
com.apple.helpui

Again, I've not done this in its totality, so travel at your own risk. (I really think that they will all be rebuilt.)

Sorry I am new to OS X, but how exactly do i do repair permissions and such? i looked into system preferences but could not find anything. sorry i'm used to windows xp!

To repair permissions go to applicaitons->utilities->disk utility, select your startup disk and hit 'repair disk permissions'


But I think you need to do the other thing that was suggested (trashing the .plist files)

yea, try deleting the preferences as mentioned above, if not, repair permissions and run crons and such with macjanitor, cocktail, or xupport.
