This is the last missing piece to the iPad puzzle for me... the Citrix X1 mouse.

Just ordered today - and now my laptop stays home. This single product renders the Macbook Air and now the lame MacBook (latest generation) completely irrelevant for me and a lot of other people.

WOW !!

Chris, you are going to have to do a review on this thing. It looks interesting, but gives very little to read about it. Giving a run down of the capabilities, and how well it works, and what you can actually do with it, would be much appreciated.
For probably $90+ AUD I'll need proof its worth the money before I buy.

Cheers

Will do. Thing is, it's not going to work with anything besides Citrix Receiver (used for connecting to Citrix servers and/or XenDesktop VDIs). Seems like they went around Apple's restrictions by just building the peripheral specific to their app.

So, when I'm working in a Windows desktop or app, it'll work great. Otherwise, it's back to tapping.

A maxed out 15" MBP is one of the pricer setups that can be purchased. Depending on exactly what you mean by "maxed out"…the price tag could be as high as $3199! That's enough to get a new Mac Pro with a 16gig ram upgrade!;)

Congrats again! That's going to be one awesome experience upgrading from a 2008 MacBook!!!:):)

Top processor and gfx, 1 TB SSD, 16 GB RAM. Yes, it is definitely a pricey setup. Since I can't upgrade components later, I went for longevity- hoping to get at least 5 years out of it. I did get an educational discount (I'm a part-time grad student), which basically covered taxes in the state of CA. Ugh. Or, you could say it covered the AppleCare for the new machine.

Part of why I have waited this long to upgrade was so I could afford something high-end. The Mac Pro was tempting. That new "coffee can" look is interesting and certainly lighter and smaller than my first G5 Powermac, which weighed in at 53 lbs! But in the end, the portability of a MBP wins the day since I travel a lot.

Oh yes. I was sure portability was part of the decision….especially since you had a MacBook before.:) If portability wasn't needed…an iMac would have been a lot less $$$$.

Holy blazes this machine is fast... and quiet. Programs which took a minute or two on my old machine take a couple of seconds on the new one. And that retina screen makes my 23" Cinema HD look like- well, a 10 year old display.

I like it already!

Upgrading from a 2008 MacBook to a 2015 MBP is a big jump. Great to hear that you see a BIG difference!:)

The new MBPs run cooler too, no hot table or knee.

Sure do. The battery life is amazing, too. I ran mine continuously during a 2-hour grad school class, and the battery only got down to 81%!

Indeed it has. Welcome back!

Thanks! A lot of things have happened in life, and I tend to limit forums now, mostly hang at a Canadian one.

On the subject of new MBP I see in my sidebar I have listed my 2013 MBP, since then it had fried itself several times because that model ran pretty hot. After the 3rd repair, Apple nicely sent me a brand new 2014 retina, since my previous one was top maxed out version, I got a bump to the 1tb one, still with 16 gigs of ram. It runs super cool, and and has been great. I use it primarily as my studio machine now, I built a recording studio in my basement (what a project...).

I had wanted a tricked out iMac for that but after spending too much money on hardware API mic pres, I think I'll sit tight on that for a while...
