new to mac need help clearing stuff

i got a second hand mac off my friend
is a
ibook G4
Mac OS X v10.4.11
1.33 GHz powerpc G4 processor
512 memory

he have a whole bunch of stuff in it and i dont want it so
how do i format it?
like clear out everthing and get it back to the way it was when he first got it
he also leave me a dmg file around 6gb on the desktop,
he told me is the new mac os i can upgrade my mac with it

i know alot about windows and i dont have a clue about mac
so can someone please teach me how to reformat it and upgrade
to the new os??

hypothetically you could open disk utility, choose that image from the desktop and burn it to a DVD, then reboot with the disc in the drive while holding the C key to initialize the DVD and begin the reformat/install process.

Of course, that's only if by some miracle of licensing that DMG is a legal copy of OS X.

Did you get the original install disks from your friend (the ones he got with it when it was new)? He should have given them to you as they will do him no good without the machine. Just use them to reinstall the system and it will be just like it was when it was first purchased.
