I want to have an ATV with my home theater setup, but keep my movies/music/etc on a hard drive connected to my home network. The reason I want to keep it that way is because I will take my laptop with me on the road, and will access my ATV and movies via Slingbox and ATV.

The guy at the Apple store said ATV can only access media on another computer, not on a hard drive or server. IS there any way around this?

If the media on your network drive is in your iTunes library, then yes, you can access that media from the AppleTV

What I want to do is have all my media on a NAS at home. While I'm on the road with my laptop, I want to be able to access the media on that NAS via Slingbox and Apple TV. But since my laptop will not be at home any more with the NAS and Apple TV, I don't think Apple TV can access that media.
