If you log onto a WiFi network on your Touch, say a works network or a hotels network, can the IT dept or network admin or whoever see what you've been looking at? And if they can what info can they get about the owner from the Touch?? Is there any owner info in the Touch?? It won't have an ISP address that can be pinpointed to the owner has it?? Its not a static system like a desktop is it and you are using other peoples/companies connections/ISP's aren't you??

Cheers.

I know there is Owner information in your iPod touch.

I dont think they can acess that information legally anyways. I highly doubt they will look where you went on the web and acess your info.

Just my .02 cent.

Well if your using there network its fair game, it would not be illegal. How ever im not sure if or if not apple has it so administrators can see what has been searched or what sites has been visted. Here is a solution just dont vist the sites you are worried about.

Yeah but no-ones answering the question of HOW they can pinpoint a persons iTouch, and therefore a specific person through things looked at over WiFi. Lets say 10 random people that a company had no idea about all were looking at things over their network. Could they pinpoint that for instance, David Smith was looking at whatever site on his iTouch and Bob Johnson was looking at whatever site on his iTouch and so on and so on?

I do not believe so. It might be able to show some information on ip addresses or something. But i don't think it recognizes device like the iPod touch

The would be able to find out what ip address was doing the surfing. If they did a TCP dump and any of your personal informations was sent unencrypted from your touch out to the internet, they could see that. As far as a network goes then Touch is just another machine...it uses all the same protocols, so is vunerable to any of the usual snooping/monitoring tools out there. A jail broken ipod can be even worse if you have not changed the root password since it was jail broke(n).

This of course is assuming all the monitoring is done from inside the network you are connected to/surfing from. So the moral is if you wouldn't do it on your work computer, you shouldn't do it on your Touch at work either. And if you are using a hotel connection, consider everything you do to be public, because it pretty much is!

There shouldn't be any user info transfered over the Wifi unless its on a site you're visiting. They can (I forget the name of the program) monitor the data going over the network. The program is specifically designed for work environments to make sure people are slacking off

Yeah but still I'll say it again, what personal info can be gleaned from doing all this? Its not a works iTouch, its personal one. What info if any could be gotten from my IP address on the Touch? Could they get MY name? Like I said I dont think I've put any details like that into the Touch. I don't even know how or why you need to put your details into it?

Any unsecured/unencrypted personal information that you transmit can be read. As far as I know, the Touch itself doesn't not contain or at the vary least does not transmit any identifying data itself. That type of information would have to be sent by you. So feel free to surf porn at work, as long as you don't enter your real name into any unsecured web pages.

It's okay! No need to be ashamed, we all look at porn on our iTouch during our lunch break.
It's called iTouch for more than one reason!

Wouldn't it have been a good idea to have this conversation before you surfed for porn at work?

is Facebook secured/encrypted when you type in your email address and password??

Don't know for sure... but when in doubt assume that it is not secure. That being said I don't see any obvious signs that Facebook is secure...so unless I am missing something, which I may since I just went to the page and looked for the little lock in the bottom corner of my browser (wasn't there) and didn't see https in the address bar and that was all.

Cheers
