external monitor slowing internet down

macbook 2.0ghz santa rosa
I have found that my internet is much faster when its not connected to my samsung sync master 932. I have a macbook with 2gb of ram. If I set the monitor to 1280x1024 75 Hz, MIllions on the samsung monitor the internet works fine, but anything higher than that slows the internet. Any idea whats going on here?
