im acquiring a g3 500mhz ibook on monday. ive asked about running tiger on it and the general consensus seems to be that i would need more memory (currently has 128) my question is how many memory slots does this unit have? one or two?

in other words will i be buying one 512 module and getting rid of the 128 one or can i have both.

thanks in advance

According to Crucial you have one slot, and the 128 should be built in, so I guess you can have both!

I think I've got a few 512mb sticks lying around somewhere if you want one? It all seems pretty expensive for some reason!

Edited to add that I have a 366mhz G3 running 10.3 and it seems ok with it - not great, but it's ok. Has a 256mb stick in it and the 64mb built in.

that was the confusion. Is the memory already built in or is it taking up the one slot the laptop has? Ace news if its built in

It should be built in. You'll have either 64 or 128mb of built in ram, so should have the slot free and clear for the 512 making 640mb.

Unless you have 64 built in and a 64mb... but I think the first scenario is more likely. If you've got the 64 built in you'd be swapping the stick for a 512 to have a total off 576mb - which is still a vast improvement!

So yeah, you have to end up with 576 or 640 either way.

skaheadpunk is right, you have one available slot for a 512 chip on that model. It may have 64 or 128 megs built in, but that doesn't matter much because you can't upgrade it!
