5400 rpm western digital 320gb hard drive into my macbook and for some reason when i turn it on it shows a light blue screen then the apple shows up. With my old 160gb hdd it would turn on and I would not have to wait for the apple to appear did i do something wrong?

When I turn on my machine the light blue screen appears, the Apple logo, and then the log on dialog asking for user name and password. (You may have your machine set to log you on automatically.)

I don't know how you had your old drive setup but what you describe for the new drive is normal. When you changed hard drives did you completely reinstall the OS or did you use cloning software such as Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, etc. to copy to the new drive?

Regards.

I had something like this happen so I used the leopard disc to change the settings to the new hard drive as the default boot device.

I figured out that i did not set the new drive as the start up drive. Thank you everyone for all the help.
