I bought 2x 2GBs are ram today for my imac but when i install them and then turn it on nothing appears it jus turns on if that makes sense, basically u can hear thats its on.

The ram is fine and the 1GB that was already in works, i just don't know what the problem is, as the guy in the store chose the ram out for me, especially for the imac.

Are you getting a startup chime? If not, installing ram in an iMac requires a really solid push to get it to seat correctly.

Revert to the 1x1GB that came with the machine and start it. If all is well add ONE of the sticks (total of 3) and restart. iF it starts switch the 2GB for the unused 2GB. You might have either a bad or wrong Ram stick. Make sure they both are DDR2 667 (or PC2 5300 on the sticks).

basically i'm running a 1gb (the one that came with it) and one of the 2gb i bought, it won't work running both 2gb ones, which is strange.

They both work because ive swapped the 2gb ones around and they both work with the 1gb.

Can you double check the ram specs you bought? Were they bought as a pair? (kit) Examples

"The "original/Mid-2007" Aluminum models -- the iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 20-Inch (Al), "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 20-Inch (Al), "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 24-Inch (Al), and "Core 2 Extreme" 2.8 24-Inch (Al) -- use 667 MHz PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM, which Apple further specifies must meet all of the following criteria:
  • PC2-5300
  • Unbuffered
  • Nonparity
  • 200-pin
  • 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
According to Apple, "DIMMs with the following features are not supported" by either line of iMac models:
  • Registers or buffers
  • PLLs
  • Error-correcting code (ECC)
  • Parity
  • Extended data out (EDO) RAM
