Partitioning my Startup disk without losing OSX

Mac Pro Quad Core 2.66GHz Intel Xeon | 3GB RAMM | OSX10.6 | Adobe CS4
If I boot from the OSX 10.4 install disk and partitioned my startup drive into three. Would it reformat the whole hard drive losing my operating system.

I am trying to create two 20GB partitions to use as scratch disks for Photoshop. At the moment the hard drive is just one 160GB partition.
