I find a major problem with adobe reader on my mac...there is no option to print in grayscale or black/white. Does anyone know a way to print pdf files without color?

When you go to print is there a blue triangle button next to the printer name? Click on it and it'll open up a whole slew of options.

no there isn't...probably there is no way to print black and white on adobe reader? i read the help page with printing on their site...under the heading
"mac and pc tips for printing" or something like that...they only showed how to print black and white on a pc....suggesting that it's only for pc version of adobe reader?

You can use ColorSync Utility (oddly enough in Utilities)

Drag a PDF over it and it will open in ColorSync Utility

At the bottom is a filter menu , choose Gray Tone and hit Apply, you now have a grayscale PDF

You can Save as if you do not want to overwrite the color version

Way... way too many specs to list.
To print Gray Scale, do the following.
1. Select Print from the File Pull down Menu.
2. In the Print Window, Select "Printer..."
3. Select the Triangle to expand the Window (The triangle is next to the
printer name)
4. Click On "layout" pull down menu and select "Printer Features"
5. Under "Feature Sets" Select "Toner"
6. Where it says "Color/Black and White", click on "Automatic" and Select
"Black and White"
7. Click Print
8. Click OK

This, or VERY close to this. The color/greyscale option is a function of the print driver, not the application.

Printing Grayscale in Adobe Reader

How it worked for me:
Click on Print icon or File-Print.
On the bottom of the Print box, lower left, click on "Printer..."
Print Setup dialog box pops up with a "Do you want to continue?" Yes/No option. Click YES.
In Print Box, click on Layout.
Click on Quality & Media.
Check the Grayscale Printing box near the bottom of the print box.
Click on Print.

I have just learned that in the Mac's Print box under the printer name, it says, "Presets: Default Settings". If I change the printing to Grayscale, as above, I can "Save Current Settings as Preset...". I then named the preset "GRAYSCALE".
Then the next time I print, when I see the Mac Print Box, all I have to do is click on DEFAULT SETTINGS, and under that, GRAYSCALE. 'Saves a few steps.
