new osx install problems

New Osx Install Problems!!!

just updated my g4 emac from osx 10.2 to osx panther 10.3.9
everything went ok, but for some reason the macintosh hd icon is nowhere to be seen and neither is the menu bar which is usually at the top of the screen i.e about this mac,software update etc. which basically means its useless to me cause i cant access or install things.
also the mac is not detecting external devices such as memory sticks or even cd's from the c.d. drive.

any suggestions grateful..

Your Mac's Specs
Silver M1 iMac 512/16/8/8 macOS 11.6
What type of OS install disc did you use? The full retail version is an absolute must and not a grey colored model specific system restore.
