First of all, the Quicksilver isn't the Yikes. Yikes was the very first PowerMac G4, with a ZIF socket for the CPU. PCI graphics, and the G4 running at either 350MHz or 400MHz. It didn't exist with Dual CPU.

Your Mac isn't a Quicksilver either, as it never existed as Dual 500.
These are the Quicksilver's specs:
G4/733 introduced 2001.07.18 discontinued 2002.01.28
G4/867 introduced 2001.07.18 discontinued 2002.01.28
G4/800 dual announced 2001.07.18, first shipped 2001.08.20; discontinued 2002.01.28
requires Mac OS 9.2 or later
CPU: 733/867/dual 800 MHz PowerPC 7450
bus: 133 MHz

I suppose yours is either a Gigabit Ethernet G4 or a Digital Audio G4

For more info on Mac specs, check www.lowendmac.com

Now to your question: Yes, upgrading from dual 500MHz to dual 1.25 will significantly make your Mac faster, allthough it won't be as fast as an original dual 1.25MHz G4, as those have a faster FSB, means the whole system will run faster.

Now, if it's worth $659,- that's more difficult to answer. For a few hundred bucks more, you can get a more recent (and fast) Quicksilver off eBay. On the other hand, you never know what you get when you buy used stuff.
I think it would be a good investment, and give your old Mac a lot more speed.

Yikes?

Glad to be able to get to know what system I realy bought, cause nobody tells you anything about those details when you buy a machine. Now I determined that mine was a Quicksilver cause of the detail in Mac Answers magasine November 30, 2004 pages 62, looking at those board and comparing with mine.

If I look at those spec

http://www.apple-history.com/frames/body.php?page=gallery&model=g4giga

Then my machine should be A
Gigabit Ethernet G4

How would I be shure of that? And it could be important to decide what CPU, HD and Video Card Upgrade I willl choose.

The best way to be sure would be to take it to a local Mac shop and have them tell you for sure. It may cost you some $$$ to have them look at it, but it beats spending $700 on the wrong processor.

You have the Gigabit Ethernet (Code named Mystic or Snakebite)

The digital audio came in dual 533,667,733

The Gigabit Ethernet was the only dual 500 mhz g4 that apple made
100 mhz system bus
64k L1, 1 MB L2
maximum 2GB PC100 SDRAM
ATA66 for the HD
2 USB 1 ports
2 FW400 ports

For the HD upgrade, any IDE HD will do.

For the Video Card, any Mac compatibla AGP card should work, except those made for the G5.

For the CPU, as far as I know, every G4 from the AGP to the Quicksilver (2002) use the same CPU daughterboard connector. When you buy the upgrade, you just have to specify which model you have, because of the FSB. The Quicksilver had a 133MHz FSB, as opposed to 100MHz for the other ones.
