Moving files from old PowerMac 8100/80

Hi ,

I have an old PowerMac 8100/80 with an external SCSI HD.
I have some files i have to copy from it and i'm not sure how.
This computer is so ancient that there is no USB / Network port (but there is an ancient external modem).

I need to copy the data to a PC computer right next to it.
How would you recommend doing it?

I thought connecting it with the serial adaptor but i'm not sure how to
set it up on the mac side (how to define the connection setup - I'm a PC technician).

The 8100 did have an ethernet port, can you connect it to a network?

If so you can get it to work as an FTP server

If you can get it to work, your PC can connect to it and begin to download

Note that old macs did not use file extensions at the end of files so make sure you put say, all word documents in a Word folder so that you can remember what they are on the PC end

About the ethernet connection

First - Thanks for the quick response!

I have looked on the backside of the comp, and the only
connection seems reasonable for ethernet is the one in the attached picture.
But it seems I'll have to find an adapter.

Is it that?

If so, do I need a 'AAUI-15 to Ethernet adapter'?

I've worked on a bunch of these, and some didn't have ethernet ports. Do you have another legacy mac with a ADB port on the back?

You can create a simple AppleShare network using an old ADB cable to copy the files over to a "newer" mac with an ethernet connection or some other way to copy the files over.

Please note that the above link is for classic to classic OS's. It will be the same idea for your older mac though and way simpler for OS X
