Hi All;

I'm thinking of getting my wife an iMac for Mothers day. The main requirement here will be that the iMac 'just works'.

My wife sometimes does online Bible studies that use windows based media files and she is continually getting emails from her friends with .wmv or other windows media files in 'em.

I don't concern myself with this so I don't know if it works without tweaks

Will a new iMac inherently read/play windows media files out of the box ?
If not is there an easy fix to get it to point where you just need to click the file to play it ?

Thanks in advance..

yes and no

the mac will play most common wm files, but not the sort of ones from Television copy protected download sites.

so, yes, her files will work, but you are advised to download some files that will let Apple's own video player, Quicktime, handle WMV files.

Search for Flip4Mac and Perian - they will add WMV playback for the mac
