I'm about to replace my ailing hard drive with a new 250gb western digital. (I don't have any slave disks). The jumper setting currently shows it to be set for cable select, whereas the diagram shows the master setting having no jumper present. Do I remove the jumper, or is it OK to leave it as is?

You do not give the Mac or HD details. It is normal to have no jumpers for master, however go to the manufacturer's web site and see what they have to say about master settings to be on the safe side.

Thanks. In the end I decided to make the disk "jumper-less" and that worked OK.
