am I right in thinking that the MacBook will only support drives up to 250Gb? ie, although the hardware will physically fit into a macbook, it can't support a drive of that capacity ....

I though Hitachi and Seagate have alreayd made 2.5" drives up to 500GB? (5400rpm) Is it the 7200 rpm that makes this drive newsworthy?

Personally, I would rather have a 5400rpm drive anyway to conserve energy.

THe 500 Gig drives only fit in the 17" chasis.

As to whether the operating system can handle a 320? I dont know that.

usually Hitachi is the first out with new technology, be aware their reliability may be low.

This Hitachi drive is interesting because formerly, the largest 7200RPM drive in the 2.5" form factor was 200GB. 5400RPM drives, as exhibited by VS, have capacities up to 500GB.

Actually Fujitsu made the first 320GB 7200 rpm drive, the Fujitsu MHZ2 BJ. Hitachi is the first to actually ship it. Fujitsu made theirs in March

Ive not heard reliability issues with Hitachi.

IF there was a 500Giger that would fit inside my 15.4" Mac I might go that route instead of this new 7200 Hitachi.

boy, they are sure taking their time getting these bigger, faster drives to market arent they?

if i had to choose between 500GB 5400 or 320GB 7200, id go 500 in a heartbeat. you get about 60% MORE storage, for about the same speed. thats a no brainer to me. when you start fillin the 320 up, its gonna slow down. itll just take you much longer to fill the 500 :)

only one i can find: too much money for me.
