Sounds like a Kernel Panic.
Most of the time, it deals with ram going bad.

Sounds like a kernel panic to me. That usually only occurs when there is a severe fault - like a corrupted filesystem or bad hard drive. I would suggest running the Apple Hardware Test to start with.

From the iMac G5 manual: said:
1 Disconnect all external devices from your iMac G5 except the keyboard and mouse.
If you have an Ethernet cable connected, disconnect it.
2 Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 that came with your iMac G5.
3 Restart your iMac G5 and hold down the Option key as it starts up.
4 Click Apple Hardware Test when the list of available startup volumes appears.
5 Click the right arrow.
6 When the Apple Hardware Test main screen appears (after about 45 seconds), follow
the onscreen instructions.
7 If Apple Hardware Test detects a problem, it displays an error code. Make a note of the
error code before pursuing support options. If Apple Hardware Test does not detect a
hardware failure, the problem may be software-related.
For more information about Apple Hardware Test, see the Apple Hardware Test Read
Me file on the Mac OS X Install Disc 1.

Hi

Thanks both for your help

I don't have the os x install disk so couldn't do the Apple Hardware Test, but read something on the internet about Hynix memory not getting on with other memory.
I had 8GB of memory, 4 Kingston, 2 Hynix and 2 Buffalo, so I took the 2 buffalo and the 2 Hynix out and now everything is OK until I open Logic studio then the same thing happens again?

Try switching out the Kingston ram. Try a pair at a time to see if the ram is causing the problem. Could even be just one of the modules.

Hi sorry for the delay in getting back

Thanks for all your help

seems to be OK now
Ive taken the Hynix and Buffalo out and left the 4Gb Kingston in the inside slots, and seems to be OK now (touch wood).

Thanks again
